Pop-up Play (Filmed) with Masks
We invite you to let your inner child out for a full (or half) day at our magical, immersive Pop-up Play Workshop, where storytelling meets papier‑mâché masks—set in the beautiful rolling hills of Folly and Friends Mustang Sanctuary.
The Workshop: In this collaborative experience, participants (you) will don beautifully crafted masks representing animals, creatures, celestial bodies, and more. Some masks and costume pieces will be provided, but if you’ve made your own papier‑mâché masks, please feel free to bring them along. We also host mask‑making workshops if you’d like help with the process, ideas, and materials for making your own.
The Story: The play follows an unmasked individual (played by the artist, Kelsey) who wanders an outdoor landscape and encounters a variety of masked characters (played by you). As the journey unfolds, Kelsey gently convinces everyone to shed their masks and robes, revealing their true faces and expressive garments. In a magical twist, she discovers her own elaborate mask, dons it, and the story reverses, looping back through the story in the opposite direction.
Since this project is only a one-day creation, the storyline above is a basic foundation for us to get creative with and is expected to change.
Guiding creators: We have Kelsey Hamilton on creative vision and direction, Paul Deichmann on storytelling and fun-making, and Alex Hagendorf getting creative with the camera.
What to Bring & Wear: •Pack a lunch, water, and snacks •Warm layers and comfortable boots •Your most colorful, expressive clothing items (please exclude brand logos, cartoons, or other loud graphics of the like—thank you!) •Any props that you think would add to the natural/surreal aesthetic of the play (optional).
Who can Attend: Everyone! No experience is necessary—all ages are welcome. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Adults—come alone or bring your friends! Whether you’re an artist, actor, or are simply curious about the creative process, this event promises to be playful, inclusive, and collaborative. Bring your own ideas if you’d like, and come ready to explore and play in the moment. Let’s get creative!
When: 11am-7pm (half-day options available) — Sunday November 16th 2025
Where: Folly and Friends Mustang Sanctuary — 250 Boone Rd, Birdsboro, PA 19508
